San Jose Mexican Restaurant and my Margarona

Thursday, February 23, 2012

So last night I went out to celebrate National Margarita Day. I ended up at San Jose Mexican Restaurant.  My first time going there and I will say the service was excellent. The drink I ended up getting was called the Margarona. This was one of the best drinks I've had in awhile. It is at the top of my list.

The Margarona (origins unknown) refers to a cocktail gaining popularity throughout the United States. The Margarona is the sister cocktail to the Margarita with one distinct difference, the Margarona has a Mini Corona beer (Coronita) inserted upside down into the cocktail. It has been suggested that the mini beer was chosen to create the Margarona over of a full size beer since its compact dimensions would not affect the stability of the cocktail.
The Margarona's "margarita" component is usually served shaken with ice (on the rocks), blended with ice (frozen margarita) or without ice (straight up). All three methods are frequently served with salt or sugar on the rim of the glass which is optional.
Typical Recipe
3 oz premium tequila
1 oz premium triple sec
2 oz lime juice
1 cup crushed ice
1 lime wedge
1 mini beer (7 oz)
Pour tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and crushed ice into a blender. Blend well at high speed. Pour into a cocktail glass. Insert opened mini beer into the cocktail upside down. Garnish with lime wedge. Enjoy.
Margarona Variations
1. Margarona Light - substitute light mini beer.
2. Some Margarona recipes call for the beer to be poured into the margarita mixture and then discard the beer bottle. This variation is an option but considered to be much less festive and presents a problem when trying to identify the drink as an authentic Margarona.
Below are some more pictures and what I ended up looking like when I was finished with my drink. **SMILES**

National Margarita Day

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Today is also National Margarita Day. So if you are giving up drinking for Lent, you are not able to celebrate today. :-)

Margarita is the most popular tequila-based cocktail in the United States today1, and I would not be surprised if the same can be said in other countries. If you don’t already know, a classic margarita is made with tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. The difference lies in the proportions of the ingredients, and some bartenders will add their own twists to the drink.

So drink up and remember: Do not drink and DRIVE!!

Have a wonderful day.

Lent 2012

What is Lent: (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Lent (Latin: Quadragesima, "fortieth"[1]) is the Christian observance of the liturgical year from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday.
The traditional purpose of Lent is the penitential preparation of the believer—through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial. Its institutional purpose is heightened in the annual commemoration of Holy Week, marking the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, which recalls the events of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday, which then culminates in the celebration on Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
During Lent, many of the faithful commit to fasting or giving up certain types of luxury as a form of penitence.

Lent helps us to acknowledge the darker sides of our brokenness, own our need for God’s grace and love, and turns us, preparing us to more fully embrace the power of resurrection, the power of life.

Below are the following that I am focusing on for Lent. Things I should do through out the rest of year for them to become part of my daily ritual..

Repentance: having to be more honest with myself. Forgiveness. Forgiving people who have hurt me, people who I have hurt and forgiving myself.

Fasting: I'm not going to eat beef and pork for the 40 days to detox my body. This year my main goal is to focus on my health. I am adding more fresh and raw food to what I eat. I really hate to use the word diet, because I still eat things that I like such as ice cream and chocolate.

Prayer: I say prayers through out the day but I need to get on my hands and knees and pray. I need to start going back to church.THIS IS A MUST!

Work of love: I have always had a kind heart. But I know that I need to start volunteering to the homeless shelters. Start giving more to people who do not have.

Are you giving anything up for Lent or are you just going to focus on becoming a better person?

Going Through The Motions

For the past month I have been going through the motions, that's one of the reason why I haven't posted to my blog. It has been from my job, personal life, school, health and friends. Sometimes I just feel there are not enough hours in a day or I’m just completely tired. It was a struggle to remain positive; I always wake up and say Lord Have Mercy On Me.

There has been a time when I just broke down and cried feeling physically, mentally and emotionally drained. I shaved the hair off my head the first weekend in January. I just wanted a new start, a new beginning. For the past two years I had a lot of pain from relationship that was not healthy and I was not going to let that mess follow me into 2012. I had to pick myself up and realized that I am thankful for the life that I have. I know that pain in only temporary that I know that I can get through all of this.  AND I HAVE!

So now I'm currently back in school taking CompTIA A+ class. I'm trying to get as many certifications as I can. I'm still sticking to my budget and eating right.

Well, that all for right now, until tomorrow, you have a wonderful day.
